Land of Meow - Magisso Bowl with Cat

Gone are the days of tacky colour and odour associated with cat bowls, and instead we welcome an era of style and minimalism. As you walk through your local pet store or search online, you will find no shortage of cat bowls to choose from, but which is the best for your fabulous feline?

Avoid Plastic like the Plague

1. Presence of BPA

Phthalates or Bisphenol A (better known as BPA) are toxic chemicals often found in many plastic products, including cat bowls. These chemicals have been shown to damage the liver, kidneys, and other organs in both humans and animals alike.

BPA and other chemicals can transfer or leak from plastic into food through a process called leaching. Leaching occurs more quickly when products are used a lot or exposed to high temperatures. Since plastic cat bowls are subject to daily use, including high temperatures through dishwashing and sunlight, that cute cat bowl you got from the corner store may be prone to leaching!

2. Unsatisfying Sanitising

Despite your best efforts, plastic is incredibly hard to clean to completely rid any remaining food particles from your cat bowls. Over time, plastic cat bowls develop tiny scratches and cracks which can harbour harmful bacteria that your cat will likely ingest unknowingly each meal.

Cat Acne

Cat Acne manifests itself as small bumps accompanied by blackheads or whiteheads, much like humans. But on a cat’s skin it can often take an appearance that looks more like dirt than pimples, which is why many owners don’t even notice the skin condition. Severe cases can lead to hair loss, redness and even bleeding.

It is believed that plastic can encourage the breakout as it has been mostly noticed in cats that use plastic bowls for food and water. Is your cat showing signs of acne? If so, consider changing your cat bowl to one from Land of Meow.
